Check out youtube videos we scoped out on body image and modeling. If you have any recommendations, feel free to email us at: SlaenderBeauty@gmail.com
We realize that underweight issues and body image are not necessarily the fault of the models,
the fashion designers, or others blamed for the too-slender ideal. However, this is a worldwide problem
that starts with improvements in the commercial industry before we can see any positive changes in
the public. The solution is not just banning models with BMI's under 18 and creating ads with
"normal-sized" models, but cracking down on agencies who turn down models who are not satisfactory
when they are at a healthy weight; encouraging designers to make clothing that fits the individual
model and not a clothing-hanger; rewarding companies when they use models who aren't necessarily 5'11" and 117 lbs...
...In other words, Slander Slender wants to promote modeling and body image that shows a
healthy person's natural and fit weight for their body type. If you're already lanky, so be it; but
if you are required to conform to a difficult or impossible standard, we think that's wrong.
Our response: This is a good montage of stuff pertaining to eating disorders.
The fashion industry has been idealizing this bony look more and more. Why? It's not beautiful or feminine.
Our response: Everyone in this youtube video is right. Even the "Picasso" woman has a point.
We shouldn't be telling people that they should eat more to look more "normal" if they look thinner
than average, for the same reason why it's not nice to tell people to eat less because they look
fatter than average. (We're NOT condoning anorexia!) We want the IMAGE that "bony is beautiful" to
be expelled from the public ideal. The "Picasso" woman seemed to miss the point that fashion shows
exhibit more and more unhealthy models. How about using models that are health-conscious and fit for their
body type? How about utilizing these "beautifying" techniques to make models look natural, not
impossibly flawless and lean? How about personalizing runway clothes to fit the individual, and not
the hanger it was sewn on?
Our response: Of course models eat! Models are human, just like any other person! If they don't eat, then there's an obvious problem!
Our response: This is a really important question. We search for faults to problems to find the
solutions, but if we don't know what the problem is, then we're pointing fingers for no reason.
What do you think?
Our response: This is a really interesting photoshop fact video! It says something about what we
see in the media...
Our response: When this youtube video came out, it was a huge phenomenon...This also says something
about what's really in the media.
Our response: Did you know? We certainly didn't...
Our response: Not just girls. Guys experience frustration from unattainable body image ideals too.
